Becoming a mum is an extraordinary and challenging chapter in life, and I firmly believe that Pilates is a valuable tool for preparing for delivery and recovering afterward.

​

As a Pilates practitioner before, during, and after two pregnancies, I am passionate about sharing the numerous benefits it brings to new and expectant mothers.

​

During my first pregnancy, I seamlessly continued my Pilates practice, making necessary adaptations. I felt incredibly strong throughout, even while battling morning sickness until 20 weeks.

​

Pilates played a pivotal role in my postnatal recovery, alleviating aches and pains from lifting, carrying, and nursing my 9lb baby.

 

By focusing on my pelvic floor and abdominal muscles, I was able to recover from a 2nd degree tear and even embarked on a plane to Cyprus (the joys of army life!) when my son was just 2 weeks old.

​

Pilates has been my lifeline during sleepless nights and has empowered me to embrace the journey of motherhood. It has enabled me to run around with my boys without fear of back pain or that I’m going to wee myself!

​

Pilates has been a constant companion through various seasons of my life and will continue to be a fundamental part of my lifestyle.

How can Pilates help me after I have my baby?

  • Pilates has an incredible impact on strengthening the pelvic floor and abdominals after childbirth. Whether you've had a C-section or vaginal birth, prioritising these areas will provide crucial support for your body as you navigate the demands of newborn life, reduce back pain, and embrace the challenges of being a mum.

  • My program specifically targets abdominal separation, helping you regain strength, alleviate back pain, and avoid a lingering "mum tum."

​

  • Considering the forward-leaning positions and repetitive lifting involved in caring for your baby, I teach techniques to release upper body tension and implement movements that strengthen your upper body. This ensures you feel fantastic and remain free from aches and pains.

  • Pilates encompasses full-body strengthening from the inside out. I focus on glute and lower body strength, recognising the significant time you'll spend on your feet. By establishing a robust and stable lower body, you'll be well-prepared for the lifting and carrying that comes with caring for your baby and all their precious belongings.

  • Pilates is more than a physical exercise; it's a mindful movement practice. After giving birth, you'll become reacquainted with your body.
