The easiest way to make a new habit stick

Life can feel pretty busy and sometimes trying to fit in one more thing can feel too much.

But what if I told you that you didn't have to find more time in your day but could instead make the most of the time you already have.

There are things that you do automatically that have become habits in your day.

  • Getting up in the morning

  • Cleaning your teeth

  • Waiting for the kettle to boil

  • Running a bath

  • Making a cup of tea

You don't even think about them, you just do them.

The best way to start a new habit is by combining it with something you already do, this is called Habit Stacking.

So if you want to get more movement into your day, try adding it onto something that you already do. This'll make it easier to fit into your day and will soon become its own habit.

  • Before you get out of bed you could do a hip stretch

  • When you get up in the morning you could do some Side Stretches when your feet hit the floor.

  • While waiting for the shower to run you could do some Roll Downs,

  • Heel raises whilst you clean your teeth or

  • Squats whilst you wait for the kettle to boil for your morning cup of tea - it all adds up.

Try one to start with and you may notice that over time you naturally add more movements to your new habit or maybe add more into your day!
